    Our annual benefit honors local mental health champions AND raises vital dollars for MHA-NS programs structured specifically to help young people improve their wellbeing.  Here is a chance for you to makea real difference in your community.

    At the  benefit we will be honoring:

    Patrick Corrigan,PsyD, Distinguished Professor of Psychology at Illinois Institute of Technology- selected for his pioneering research on stigma and his role in creating the Honest, Open, Proud series of anti-stigma programs. Dr Corrigan will receive the Founders Award.

    Marvin Lindsey, MSW,CADC, Chief Executive Officer of the Community Behavioral Health Care Association of Illinois for his tireless advocacy to expand access to mental health and substance use services for all Illinois residents, particularly our youth. Mr. Lindsey will receive the Lorraine H. Morton Youth Impact Award.

    Family Focus for its programs designed to support children of all ages and strengthen families in 7 area communities. Family Focus will receive the Service Award for supporting family and youth mental health.

    Topic: Bouncing Back: The Courage to Continue, open to students in 6th through 12th grade. Cash prizes starting @ $300. 


    Send entries to mhanorthshore@gmail.com or share on Google DrivE. Email us questions or call 847-866-5941. ALL ENTRIES WILL BE JUDGED BY 2 VOLUNTEER JUDGES. 

    Ideas to get started: 

    ·        Describe a time that youfaced a difficult situation and you were able to bounce back.

    ·        What helped you to moveforward?

    ·        What did you learn aboutyourself from that experience?

    ·       (high school students only):  Looking back on theexperience, what would you like to teach about resilience in the face ofchallenges to someone younger than you?

    Essays: 250-500 words, tell a powerful story using personal examples and experiences. Art: Original work, 11x14'', include artist statement. Videos: 1-2 minutes.

    Include your name, school, grade and teachers' name along with e-mail, phone and address on the body of the e-mail or a separate sheet, not with your work.

  • Literary Clinical Case Discussion

    The Frances R. Schnadig Memorial Mental Health Education Series includes clinical discussion of works of fiction and non-fiction, focusing on relationships, treatment, and ethical issues. The Literary Clinical Case Discussion Series is a continuing education program for mental health professionals. The book to be discussed today is  "After Visiting Friends: A Son's Story" by Michael Hainey, published in 2013.  Reading the books is recommended, but not required, cases will be presented. . 2 CEU's for Social Workers and Counselors.
